Hawke and Hunter is a venue for this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival celebrations and will be hosting Traverse Theatre’s ‘Emerging Playwright’ Ella Hickson’s highly acclaimed ‘Hot Mess’ each night from 6-7.30pm from the 6^th to the 30^th of August. Written for, and performed in Hawke and Hunter’s nightclub ‘Below Stairs’, Tantrums Productions brings Ella Hickson, writer and director of ‘Eight’ [Fringe First, Best of Edinburgh 2008] and Precious Little Talent [Sell Out Show 2009, ‘radiant, wonderfully witty’ The Telegraph ****] back to the Fringe for the third time with her new site-specific play, ‘Hot Mess’. This production splices high-voltage drama with lyrical story-telling. Performed in the round and backed by a live D.J., ‘Hot Mess’ is experimental in form, wonderfully honest, hilarious and presents a haunting modern tale of love, loss and loneliness. The 2010 Drinks, Retailing and Marketing Awards held on Monday the 28^th of June, saw one of the prestigious honours of the night ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 ‘ awarded to Edinburgh’s Barrie Brown of Brown Taylor Management. The ceremony took place in Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel with a wide cross section of the hospitality industry in attendance and featured entertainment from the comedian Karen Dunbar and hand- picked professional dancers choreographed by Lynn Kelly of the DRAM team.

Barrie Brown established the Brown Taylor brand in 2006 with business partner Simon Taylor launching ‘99 Hanover Street’, as their first venture in Edinburgh. Since then they have expanded at a phenomenal rate with ‘99 Bar and Kitchen’ in Aberdeen, ‘Bruach Bar’ in Broughty Ferry, Dundee and more recently ‘Hawke and Hunter’ with its adjacent ‘Green Room’ in Edinburgh’s East End. This latter venue in particular exemplifies the extent of the rapid growth and entrepreneurial finesse housed in one location, boasting a restaurant, 3 boutique hotel rooms, ‘The Cocktail Bar’, ‘Whisky Room’, and ‘The Secret Garden’, a beautifully furnished outside space linked to the property’s freshest development, the nightclub ‘Below Stairs’. ‘The Green Room’ is an upmarket billiards room, exclusive venue and cocktail bar which also provides access to the nightclub.

Feedback on our last event and speakers in ‘The Cocktail Bar’ has been excellent and taking on board the thoughts of some of our regulars the theme for our next event will be ‘Finding New Customers”.
